LUDDWA brings together women, children and men with disabilities across Luwero District to advocate for inclusion, build skills, and reduce stigma, abuse and gender-based violence.

Who We Are

An umbrella for every woman, man and child with a disability in Luwero.

Luwero District Disabled Women's Association (LUDDWA) is an umbrella of groups spanning the 13 lower local governments of Luwero District for women with disabilities.

LUDDWA was formed and registered in 2015 by the Luwero District Local Government Department of Community Services, under registration number CD-202. Our offices are located at Luwero Hospital.

We work to build the capacities of women, children and men with disabilities in Luwero District — reducing discrimination, gender-based violence, and other forms of abuse and stigma faced by persons with disabilities.

To bring together all people with disabilities in Luwero District, to advocate for their inclusion in social and economic development, and for the reduction of abuse of their rights in all its forms — enhancing development among persons with disabilities.

How We Work Toward It

Eight objectives guide everything LUDDWA does.

Rights & self-determinationSensitise girls and women with disabilities about their civil and human rights, so they can make their own decisions on sexuality and pregnancy.

Skills partnershipsWork with organisations and institutions with similar objectives to train women and girls in different skills.

Changing attitudesCreate awareness on the needs, limitations, potential and rights of women and girls with disabilities, to change negative societal attitudes.

Collective organisingMobilise persons with disabilities to form groups and organisations for collective social action.

Unity among membersPromote unity among members across all 13 lower local governments.

Resource mobilisationLobby for funds from government and other development partners to achieve LUDDWA's vision, mission and objectives.

A saving cultureCultivate a saving culture among members through the establishment of Village Saving and Loans Associations.

Whatever it takesUndertake any other activity deemed appropriate to further the vision, mission and objectives of the Association.
